Spartans happy having escaped early test

The Maine-Endwell Spartans put their now 53-game win streak to the test in Week 2 as they took on two-time defending Class B State Champion Chenango Forks.  Early in the third quarter the game looked to be in the bag for M-E after Michael Palmer returned an interception for a touchdown to make it 21-0.  But the Blue Devils stormed back and made it a one possession game in the 4th before, ultimately, the Spartans held on to win 28-21.

While a win is a win, some wins feel better than others, and this is one of those, proving that the Spartans can survive just about anything.

"I like the fact that we were able to do what we were able to very early on and then also fight off some adversity," said M-E Head Coach Matt Gallagher.  "It was almost a tale of two halves as they say.  But I like the fact that we were able to get up on them quickly and then also fight them off at the end, so I think it was a great game for us."

M-E travels to Susquehanna Valley in Week 3.  The Spartans beat the Sabers twice last year, once in the regular season 27-14 and then again in the postseason 13-6.
