"One Game at a Time"

Sometimes, trying to pull emotion from athletes and coaches is the toughest task a reporter can have.  While viewers criticize broadcasters for using cliches, athletes and coaches are just as susceptible to speaking in the same cliches.  So, when an athlete or coach says that they're taking things "one game at a time" there's usually a low groan immediately following.  However, in anticipation of this week's marquee matchup between Chenango Forks and Maine-Endwell, both teams are ignoring the hype and treating it as just another game.  It may sound hard to do, but as evidence by their track record, it seems to work.

Both teams are undefeated this year, both teams won state titles last year, and both teams continually focus on the task at hand and executing their gameplan rather than what their opponent is threatening to do.  While the Blue Devils put an undefeated season on the line, there's arguably more at stake for the Maine-Endwell Spartans.

M-E owns the longest active win streak in New York and sits nine wins away from the all-time record, and 13 wins from the longest unbeaten streak.  There have been a few tough tests along the way, in regular season and postseason, but Friday's matchup may be the toughest yet, and the most vulnerable that 3.5 year win streak has looked.  But, as they have every week, the Spartans ignore the streak and stick to business.

Kickoff scheduled for Friday night at Spartans Stadium, 7:00.
